Venue Cornwall was set up in 2006 and funded by a GfA as a consortium of small scale venues in Cornwall and Plymouth to work together to bring high quality dance and theatre shows from outside of Cornwall to a network of venues with a joint marketing campaign.
Since then we’ve also had investment from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to set up and run the Young Promoters scheme alongside Venue Cornwall, as well as funding from the Arts Council to run the Night Less Ordinary scheme offering free tickets to young people up to the age of 26. That scheme finished in 2011 and since then the Works have been offering a Guarantee against Loss scheme to venues who identify work that they would like to promote, but with a higher risk than their normal programme. We are currently working on a strategic touring bid to continue the work of VC and Young Promoters.
The partners are; the Acorn, the Barbican, Burrell Theatre, Carn to Cove, Hall for Cornwall, Performance Centre, Sterts, Tolmen Centre, and Truro College.
We meet every couple of months to present shows that we have identified for the GAL and to network and support each other. In order to qualify for GAL, the venue needs to demonstrate a willingness to work in partnership with other members of VC to deliver a coherent mini tour for the artist and to develop audiences for the show across the network.
